I am saddened to see that John is no longer with us. I lost contact with him about 15 years ago, after moving from Olympia to Tacoma.  He was a long time resident of Olympia, working for the State on computer system development.  His primary hobby was photography, and you could see him at the local fairs showing off his art.

John was a great friend in Junior High at Gray and at Mt. Tahoma High.  He was really the only "non-athlete" who comfortably hung around in our social group.  A little "geeky" by some standards, John had a heart of gold, and always had something significant to add to any conversation.  I was looking forward to seeing him again at a reunion...

John passed away in 2002, here's the obituary.  A great friend at Gray and Mt. Tahoma.

 

John Devereaux
John Devereaux was born April 28, 1947, in Tacoma, WA. He died at his home in Olympia, May 29, 2002. John was a resident of Olympia for 30 years and retired from the State of Washington after serving 28 years at the Department of Information Services. John loved photography, travel, bicycling, computers, and French. He leaves a brother, Brian; Brian’s wife Jamie, nephew Brian Jr., and niece Tabitha, of Tacoma; a sister, Susan Mullaley, and her husband Steve, of Clearwater, FL; and many close friends who were blessed by his friendship. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, June 4 at 2 PM at the Tacoma Cemetery, 4801 S Tacoma Way, Tacoma. There will be a gathering at 4 PM after the memorial service at 1333 East Bay Drive, NE, in Olympia. Memorial donations can be made in support of Relay for Life or Providence Home Health and Hospice.
